B05 AUTUMN – ‘Wave’ mokume gane

This Monarch ‘Autumn’ features a handle in ‘Wave’ mokume gane, inlaid with orange spalted beech wood. The blade is hand-forged ‘Hornets Nest’ damascus steel by Mike Norris; the one-hand button lock and the thumb stud are set with citrine gemstones. The Monarch is a simple design that is easy on the eye and effortless in the hand; the elegant shape of the handle on this design is also an ideal canvas to showcase fine hand-engraving or exotic materials. The ‘Autumn’ features the rich and unique synthesis between function, exotic materials, and the superlative artistry that is the hallmark of William Henry’s collection.

WAVE MOKUME

Wave Mokume is another William Henry exclusive material (patent pending) that fuses traditional metal forging with modern fabricating technology. This alloy features copper, stainless steel, and pure iron in a 55 layer billet patterned with our undulating Wave. When highly polished and heat colored, the iron layers take on deep browns, purples, or blues according to temperature and quenching technique.

BEECH WOOD

Beech is an important and widely-used hardwood. Its hardness, wear-resistance, strength, and excellent bending capabilities, make this hardwood a mainstay for many skilled woodworkers. Depending on soil conditions, Beech can grow to very large sizes. The veneer tends to be slightly darker colored, as slicing the veneer usually requires the wood to be prepared with steam, which gives the wood the beautiful golden tone
